On April 27th, 1983, Ryan became MLB's all-time strikeout leader and on July 11th, 1985, became the first pitcher in MLB history to reach the 4,000 K mark while playing for the Astros. These events inspired the "Strikeout King" wordmark and name of the sneaker.
